Rand frequently demonstrates a goatlike stubbornness and gruff demeanor. He carries around a crude drawing of a young halfling, which he shows to people in hopes of finding someone who has seen his missing nephew, Stiev. I believe he only joined this mercenary group because Dom promised to lead him to his nephew. Unfortunately, I sincerely doubt Dom knows where Stiev is, so he's just using Rand and his misplaced trust for his powerful druidic abilities.
