Elemental Engine
Race: Inanimate Object (List)
Monster Manual classification: Unknown
Alignment: Unknown
Rare: No
CR: ●♦26Epic Normal ●♥32Epic Hard
Habitats:
- Three-Barrel Cove (epic) — inside the pirate ships
- Precious Cargo — inside the pirate ships
Description: Stored within any elemental-powered airship is, obviously, an elemental. The ship feeds on its powers, and as long as the elemental is alive, the ship has infinite fuel. However, if the Elemental Engine is destroyed, the channelling stops, and the ship's propulsion cuts out. Most of the time, the formerly imprisoned elemental also will wreak havoc and destroy the airship before retreating back into the Elemental Chaos.
Without the elemental ring providing lift, an airship is little more than several hundred tonnes of wood and metal hanging in mid-air. Accordingly, the loss of its Elemental Engine destroys the ship, resulting in an instant kill. In Three-Barrel Cove, it is possible to board at least two airships (The Betrayer's Visage and The Ill Fate) from vantage points and destroy their engines; this will destroy the airship.
Any airship in Precious Cargo may draw level with your own if your airship's controls are destroyed, allowing you to attack their Elemental Engine; this may be necessary if your own engine is damaged.
Be aware that if its engine is wrecked, an airship will explode in mid-air shortly afterwards, instantly killing any player on board; once the engine is down, evacuate quickly!
(All Elemental Engines in Three-Barrel Cove contain a Volcanic Elemental, which may attack players damaging the engine. If it does, and the engine is then destroyed, the elemental, if alive, will also attack nearby crewmen of the ship.)
