Quests with Beholders
One of the classic Dungeons and Dragons monsters, Beholders are equipped with a number of devastating attacks and special abilities that can make them a serious problem to deal with even at low levels. This page provides a list of all Beholders with standard Anti-magic Cone behaviour - spellcasters, beware!
(For more advice on how to tackle a traditional Beholder, see here. Also note that some quests not listed here may also contain Beholders, but these will be of different subtypes and thus missing the Antimagic ability, making them significantly less of a threat.)
Adventure areas[edit]
- Orchard of the Macabre (heroic)/Orchard of the Macabre (epic)
- The only beholder here is Tahareh, a wilderness rare usually found in Cholthuzz's area. He can be spotted and avoided fairly easily.
- Soami Gardens
- The Doomsphere Zhuggothz may spawn behind a door. As long as you don't break this door down, you are in no danger.
- The Subterrane - Central/The Subterrane - East
- Many Beholders throughout the Xoriat zones. Approach with extreme caution.
Quests[edit]
- A New Invasion
- A single red-named Beholder, Xignaxak, may spawn randomly behind a couple of doors on the upper levels.
- Acute Delirium
- Multiple respawning Beholders in the Sleeping Spell Inn. (When you reach Xoriat itself, most of the Beholders there belong to a special type without an Anti-magic Cone, but there are still a couple.)
- Caverns of Korromar
- A red-named Beholder is the final boss, and his Anti-magic Cone hits you as soon as the fight starts.
- Delirium
- Two red-named bosses, and a few Young Beholders scattered around. One boss can be skipped by beating the drinking contest.
- Dreams of Insanity
- Many Beholders here, including three minibosses behind optional doors, and respawning trash and a red-named boss in the final room.
- Entering the Gate Chamber
- A few low-level Beholders - one is a required kill for a key unless you can unlock the door.
- Hound of Xoriat / Legendary Hound of Xoriat
- Beholders begin to appear as respawning raid trash after five minutes. Ideally you should nearly be done by this point.
- Invaders!
- Multiple throughout the quest; many are required kills, and there is a 20% chance the end boss will be one as well.
- In the Flesh
- A number appear throughout the quest. Miniboss Pykzyl and his undead form Dead Pykzyl do not have Anti-magic Cones.
- Killing Time
- Groktin, from The Jungle of Khyber, appears in the first time rift.
- Litany of the Dead
- Only on Cholthulzz's route.
- Missing
- A few Young Beholders appear near the end (the end boss is a Chaos Beholder so lacks an Anti-magic Cone.)
- Rainbow in the Dark
- Some Elder Beholders ambush you after the first journal.
- Slavers of the Shrieking Mines
- Two standard Beholders patrol the area near the shrine. If you are careful, you can avoid them entirely.
- Temple of the Deathwyrm
- Antimagic Shadow Beholders appear in certain areas - the Shadowfell portal in the final boss fight, and in the combat trial room.
- Tempest's Spine / Legendary Tempest's Spine
- Two appear near the door to the final boss.
- The Codex and the Shroud
- During the wave battle phase in the final boss fight, several Beholders will appear if enemies from Xoriat spawn.
- The Jungle of Khyber
- Several throughout the mushroom area. More pressingly, Groktin the Elder Beholder appears just before the final boss with two other red-named bosses - do not attempt to solo this at-level as a caster.
- The Lord of Eyes
- Many Beholders appear throughout the quest, although luckily, most belong to a non-Antimagic sub-race.
- The Mark of Death
- Respawning trash on the main platform and in one of the three Death Knight rooms.
- The Missing Expedition
- The Cave Beholder (actually a standard Beholder) is a required kill.
- The Night Revels - Delera's Graveyard
- Several Doomspheres appear around the graveyard at level 11+.
- The Prison of the Planes/Return to Prison of the Planes
- Only one Beholder: Kardin, a miniboss in the Xoriat room. This room can be skipped by completing any six of the others.
- The Prisoner
- Several in the ghostly village area.
- The Threnal Arena
- Several spawn in the Master's and Grandmaster's Challenges.
