- Episode: 1Deathblock Robe of Invulnerability:
I thought I’d start with a Deathblock Robe of Invulnerability. How many times have you stepped out of the shower, only to be pelted with Phantasmal Killer and a rain of arrows? I know I have! This robe will make you look great while you take out beholders, archers, or anything else that aims to dampen your day with a little horrible, painful death, and today’s recipe is easy to make!
- Episode: 2Proof Against Poison ring:
Don’t you hate it when you’re suffering Con damage while stuck in the middle of a Cloudkill, or simply walking down a desolated tomb when, out of nowhere, you get drenched by a painful poison trap? That stuff is hard to wash out of your chainmail, let me tell you! Well, today’s recipe is all about Proof Against Poison!
One of the nicest things about this simple but elegant Proof Against Poison ring is its low minimum level; you’ll be wearing this shortly after setting foot in Stormreach! Having this easy-to-make ring will do wonders while fighting low-level spiders and troglodyes, not to mention the smile you’ll get while sitting in a Cloudkill while others suffer around you!
- Episode: 3Detect Secret Doors:
Hello everyone, and welcome to the third episode of “Crafting with…Courtney!” I’m here to make crafting fun, easy, and good for you! This week we’ll be making an extremely low-cost and quick-to-make goggles or trinket that detects secret doors when you get near them! Throw out those clickies, and let the rogue sleep in - it’s finding-hidden-stuff time!
This magical item can be crafted onto either a trinket or goggles, today we’ll place this shard onto a trinket! You can purchase a craftable trinket in the DDO Store, find one while questing, or even prepare a Shard of Power from The Shroud (which becomes a craftable trinket when deconstructed using a Dust of Disjunction in the Item Deconstruction Device!)
- Episode: 4holy silver longsword of lawful outsider bane:
This week we’ll be making a more advanced crafting recipe as we put together a longsword fit for Dol Dorn himself! This holy silver longsword of lawful outsider bane will be great when you need to kick obnoxious devils and Quori out of your next Lawful-Neutral dinner party!
What makes this recipe a bit more advanced is the need to craft Shards of Potential in order to really get the most out of your crafted blade! When you make a base crafting item or weapon, the item can naturally hold up to +5 worth of enchantment levels, so if you need more enchantment, you’ll need to build up that weapon using Shards of Potential first!
To make Shards of Potential, you will need a large stack of essences. They can be of any one type, but need to be of the same type for each Shard of Potential. You can determine how many Shards of Potential you will need by looking at the enchantment level of the shards you want to put on your item (it’s the +number in the upper right corner of the shard information popup box.)
- Episode: 5Joe’s Ring:
One of the best things about Cannith Crafting is that it lets you decide where to best put the bonuses you want! If you are like me, you have tons of trinkets, rings, cloaks, belts, and other items taking up space in your backpack! You may find yourself needing to shield yourself from a jet of acid in the morning, and be looking to run faster by the afternoon!
Like pairing a good wine and cheese, shards can be matched to put them on one convenient item! You can figure out what can go where by looking at the Item Crafting Device, searching for the shard you want, and hovering your mouse pointer over the “sword” to see a list of what kind of items can hold the shard!
For example, let’s look at Joe’s Ring, and see what we can do! Joe’s Ring is a +2 Natural Armor Ring of Protection +2:
- Episode: 6Everbright weapon:
Personally, I find mold to be kind of creepy. There’s something about all of that magic in the air that can turn an ugly spot of icky stuff in the corner into a downright dangerous ooze or slime! That’s why this week we’re going to make a weapon that takes care of unsightly oozes, and also works great against rust monsters!
The most difficult thing about oozes and rust monsters is their ability to quickly destroy weapons, which is why it’s important to either have a weapon like a Muckbane (which is made of glass, and can’t be corroded), or a weapon with an Everbright bonus! Cannith crafting makes getting an Everbright weapon easy!
- Episode: 7Reaversbane:
One of my all-time most feared monsters is the reaver. They’re big, they’re mean, and they dish out a ton of damage! Take the Fire Reaver for example; you can’t invite one over for dinner without it smashing your furniture, grunting loudly, setting the table on fire and generally being a most unwelcome guest! That’s why today’s crafting recipe is all about Evil Outsiders, and making a great weapon to battle them with.
Today we’ll be making Reaversbane, a +1 Holy Cold Iron Heavy Pick of Evil Outsider Bane. Cold Iron is one of several metallic properties that will remain on a weapon even when the weapon is disjuncted. This means you will not only get the benefits of it, but can also match a perfect prefix and suffix for the metal you are looking for!
- Episode: 8Lightbringer!:
This week we are making a powerful weapon against devils and many other baddies in DDO, at your request! After last week’s column, we received a request to make a +4 Holy Silver Falchion of Evil Outsider Bane, so this week we bring you Lightbringer!
This weapon has a moderate complexity level, but can be made by any crafter who is able to make a level 45 Arcane shard and a level 45 Divine shard. This weapon has the ability to bypass the damage reduction of numerous creatures because it contains both Silver and Good-aligned properties, and is considered to be similar in effect to a Mineral II greenteel crafted weapon! As one of the most currently popular Cannith Crafting items, we thought today would be a great time to show you how to make it!
- Episode: 9Undead-Be-Gone!:
Clerics and Paladins can be quite handy when your undead uncle stops by for a visit, screaming horrifically about the terrors of the underworld. After all, it’s rude to say, “I’m sorry Uncle, but your rotting corpse really isn’t welcome here…” A Cleric or Paladin, though, can simply send your formerly-living relative on his way with a quick Turn Undead! Whether you are looking to make undead cower in fear, or even destroy them altogether, Turn Undead can be quite useful - provided you are powerful enough!
That’s why today’s item aims to make the most from your Turn Undead attempts! Today we’ll be making a Silver Flame Helm of Persuasion, or, as I like to call it, Undead-Be-Gone! The Silver Flame shard will give the total Hit Dice of undead turned by six, and the Shard of Persuasion will increase all Charisma-based skills by 3! Team this up with a + Charisma item and you’ll be quite unpopular in the plane of Dolurrh!
- Episode: 10Peacemaker:
When it comes to fixing mechanical objects, I like to use the best tool for the job: a hammer. For something like a clock, I like to smack it once. If that doesn’t work, hit it again! If that doesn’t work, hit it harder! However, sometimes you aren’t talking about a clock, rather; it’s something huge, like a Warforged Juggarnaut! And sometimes you don’t want to fix it, but instead take it apart. For that, you need a really big hammer!
That’s why this week’s item is called Peacemaker. It’s a +4 Holy Adamantine Maul of Construct Bane. This is a powerful weapon against constructs, and has a pretty large ingredient list, but I think the end result is well worth it!
- Episode: 11Glow and Darkness:
Shields are great! Besides giving you a higher Armor Class, shields let you walk around with really interesting designs on your arm, and can even serve as a makeshift plate when it comes time to eat while traveling through Eberron! But mostly shields are great because they help keep you alive. Having a high armor class can be a real challenge, but today’s shield aims to give you a nice AC boost at around level 15!
Today’s shield is a +5 Heavy Mithril Shield of Superior Stability. Glow and Darkness is modeled after the named shield Light and Darkness, which has a higher minimum level (and some other benefits not featured on today’s recipe), and can be found in the Path of Inspiration adventure pack! The main benefit to today’s recipe is a lower minimum level compared to Light and Darkness, besides being something you can craft rather than find. This shield is for characters of True Neutral Alignment, since all of the Stability bonuses only apply to characters of that alignment.
- Episode: 12Rogue’s Friend:
Rogues have it hard…it doesn’t matter if your barbarian friend runs through the spike trap you were trying to disable, you’re getting blamed for whatever injuries befall them! And yes, some fellow adventurers carry secret door detection “clickies”, but there’s just something about rogue’s pride that necessitates you finding the secret door first!
Today’s item is called Rogue’s Friend, and is a pair of Clever +2 Goggles of Secret Door Detection! This item will let you find secret doors first, without having to even search for them, and also gives you a bonus to your Search and Disable Device skills, which use Intelligence as a skill modifier. Find and disable traps more easily, and no longer need to search for secret doors? That’s a Rogue’s friend, indeed!
- Episode: 13Bloody Racket:
Update 11 has brought a bunch of new adventurers to Stormreach, and today I want to welcome our new Artificer friends to Cannith Crafting by making a repeating light crossbow that helps them in battle and gets them started right! This cool crossbow will do a bunch of damage against creatures you’ll encounter shortly after beginning your journey, and is a low-cost and easy-to-make item!
Today’s weapon is called Bloody Racket, and is a Screaming Repeating Light Crossbow of Bleeding. This weapon does not have an Enhancement Bonus in order to keep its minimum level low, but that can be added later as your artificer levels up! By using the Artificer level 1 spell Conjure Bolts you can give your bolts a +1 Enhancement Bonus! Remember that when using a ranged weapon like a crossbow or bow, the enhancement bonus that applies will be the higher of either the bonus on your weapon, or the bonus on your bolts and arrows!
- Episode: 14Strategist’s Goggles:
Fighting blind takes a particular level of skill that I just don’t have. It might be cool to defeat a horde of monsters with your eyes closed (it’s certainly impressive!), but I’d rather be able to see what wants to kill me, ya know? That’s why this week’s recipe takes the “blind” out of “blind fighting”, and adds more fighting to the fight!
This week’s recipe is called Strategist’s Goggles, and is a pair of Blindness Ward Goggles of Battle Skill. Besides making you immune to blindness, these goggles will give you a nice +2 Attack Bonus!
- Episode: 15Lucky and Angry:
Our newest visitors to Stormreach have brought a new way to craft with them! Artificers specialize in the use of Rune Arms, and these crafty adventurers have found a way to imbue their weapons with Cannith crafting shards! It’s always fun to have new things to craft onto, so today we’ll be looking at Rune Arm crafting!
Today’s recipe is called Lucky and Angry, and imbues a Shard of Good Luck onto Khyber’s Fury, a special Rune Arm that can be found in Tangleroot Gorge. Good Luck will add a +1 Luck Bonus to all skills and saving throws!
- Episode: 16Kama Curemeleon:
I like efficiency a lot! Getting things done with the least amount of wasted time and effort means a lot to me, especially when that efficiency saves lives! That’s why today’s item improves healing efficiency, and gives you more healing power! The recipe is aimed specifically at Monk/Cleric multiclass builds who want to remain centered and give their healing a bit more oomph!
Today we will be making Kama Curemeleon, an Efficient Empower Healing II Kama of Greater Healing Lore! The kama has a minimum level of 11, and does require a Shard of Potential +6.
- Episode: 17Pouch of Leeches:
There’s nothing worse than being diseased and poisoned at the same time….trust me, it’s no fun! That’s why today’s item aims to prevent this from happening! You’ll feel better, and all it takes is a pouch full of leeches…
Today’s recipe is called the Pouch of Leeches, and is a Disease Immunity Necklace of Resistance (Poison) +5! This item offers a ton of benefit for a low cost, and has a low minimum level as well.
- Episode: 18Puppy Collar:
Making things is fun, and it can be even more fun to make things for your pets! Your little homunculus sure does grow up fast, and making him or her even more powerful is a great way to say, “Hey, little construct, I love you!”
That’s why today’s item is a simple docent that can be equipped onto your Artificer’s Iron Defender! It’s called Puppy Collar, and is a Docent of Superior Stability! This amazing docent will give your Iron Defender +6 to their Armor Class, and a +6 Resistance Bonus to all Saving Throws!
- Episode: 19Howling Werewolf:
Who doesn’t like to dress their pets up for the holidays? I know I love giving my Iron Defender a fun spooky outfit for the Mabar Festival of Endless Night. Perhaps your pet doesn’t get as much enjoyment out of it as you do, but still, making something for your animal companion just screams “cute!”
Today’s recipe will explain how to craft a module for your Iron Defender, and is themed for the Mabar holiday! We’ll be making a +1 Screaming Module of Bleeding, called Howling Werewolf!
- Episode: 20Trapper Keeper:
Sometimes crafting your own item will give it a lower minimum level than you’d find “in the wild”, and when that happens, it’s a recipe for crafting success! Rogues in particular will enjoy the benefits of crafting their own trapsmithing items, since many of them fall under this category!
Today’s recipe is a simple and plain Ring of Disabling +10 called Trapper Keeper! Nothing fancy, but it’s great due to its relatively low minimum level. Finding a “plain” version of this ring will give you a nice item with a minimum level of 9, but when crafted, it has a minimum level of 7! The same goes for Search and Spot items as well.
