Talk:Crafting
Thinking of Rewriting a lot of Crafting and Related Item / Affix Pages[edit]
- Cannith crafting page(s): Some data is not correct eg the stuff about levels beyond 150, the max level is 28 still, the list of missing properties is incomplete, article in general just isn't terribly helpful to someone thinking of doing some crafting. It's hard to get an idea of what you can get for how much effort. It's hard to gauge if cannith crafting is used for something popularly, and if so, what.
- The Green Steel items page doesn't even have more than an external link to give you an idea what you can create. What if that external link goes dead? Isn't Green steel a pretty major aspect of the game?
- Incredible Potential page reads like a stub and is more or less incomprehensible unless (I guess) you know how things work.
- A lot of crafting pages has a fair bit of talk about what happened in what upgrade. This is not useful information to players. Can anyone explain why it is there? Why do I care as a player that this feature was added in update X and changed in update Y and Z? At best put it in some sort of historical note subsection, not in the overview or throughout the article.
- This relates to the pages listing item affixes. It's hard to find data on those pages that would help someone decide what gear to try and get. For example something basic like how do I get the best bonus to strength... nothing's going to say something simple like on basic items you can get +6 strength at about level 11, or maybe level 9. It's much harder to get it to a +7. Augments allow you to get a lower amount of strength in a "cheaper" format. Strength is usually an enhancement bonus so it wont stack except with (exceptional items that would stack)
- Some of the data is incorrect too. for example False Life +30 is ML 6 if generated on a random item, but it's only +5 if crafted. This is not noted on the page because the page doesn't really think in terms of competing sources for the same property -- bonus life.
- there should be a page probably in the basic mechanics section listing the key game properties that you can have boosted with good equipment, (so in addition to the 6 attributes would be listed, to hit, damage, HP, SR, saving throw, AC, spell point, spell power and speed bonuses) and probably mentioning equipment slots and basic staking as a concept. An intro for the economy of choosing your slot equipment.
- It seems like their ought to be some page that does a big comparison of what you can get out of the various different crafting processes so you can weigh the advantages and disadvantages. They should also be compared to ordinary "random" item drops. This would include an overview, but also specifically how good each system is at providing each game property. For example cannith crafting cannot provide a dodge value above 4. For example basic random weapons can be upgraded by the Risia event whereas other systems cannot.
- The crafting page in general could be reworked to classify the different crafting possibilities into three broad categories which would allow people to have an intuitive idea about how the different systems relate. For example that Cannith Crafting is essentially a competing system with Green Steel Items, but it doesn't compete with Augments and Stone of Change.
- set items - items that you essentially "buy" or "upgrade" and are always the exact same (some Events, Trapmaking, Item Upgrading, Dragontouched Armor, Epic Crafting?)
- customized items - items that have a very wide range of possible items where you select the properties you want from lists and have to collect special ingredients for each property (Cannith Crafting, Green Steel Items, Incredible Potential, Alchemical Crafting, Thunder-Forged)
- upgrades - boosts that can apply to a wide range of other items (some Events, Stone of Change, Augment slots)
- Problem is, since I've only played to level 15 so far I have no idea how the various crafting "customized items" systems compare. I can tell you that the pages do not help at all to figure it out. As far as i can make out the higher level crafting of "customized items" are about the same until you add the "tier 3" type of stuff that can add some low percentage probability of some sort of proc. Or something.
- I can't understand the current pages and I love thinking about this stuff. A lot of players want it a lot simpler: what's the best stuff I can get for my level and how do I get it? The Green steel page does pretty well for having some stuff like that.

- What crafting is introduced in what update is mentioned with returning players in mind. "Okay i stayed out of the game from this update to this update so this one is new to me" kinda thing. I see no reason to remove it (→4). Maybe you didn't check the ingredient page? You know, crafting in DDO is one big mess, I totally understand where you are coming from, total pain in the butt for new players, but one thing you need to know is, well, to be brutally honest there's no such thing as "basis" for crafting mechanics in this game (→9, 10). Developers -especially item designers- come and go, and they add their version of "customizable"/"purchasable"/"slottable"/"upgradable"/whatever items and then just leave them for dead. Many crafting systems go obsolete quickly and become simply not worth doing as is. Nobody cares about Dragontouched, Incredible Potential, nor Alchemical anymore. I have a feeling Thunder-Forged goes the same way sooner or later... Your classification doesn't make scene to me, one classification that makes sense to everybody is maybe impossible for the reason above too (→9), but try again once you have reached the cap maybe... I appreciate your sentiment on wrong descriptions, by all means update them. (→1-4) Big overview on what level what stats/waht slot made available would be helpful too (→8), set up a new page and try. --yoko5000 (Contributions • Message) 01:24, April 22, 2014 (EDT)
Update 8 Crafting[edit]
- We may need here a new entry for the 'Sora Kell' crafting. The Items from Update 7 can be upgraded via items and marks from Update 8. I will add a template/table for this below to show which items combine how and result in what.
- I'm hoping to get to the Crafting page over the weekend and redo it to be a bit more streamlined, I'll be adding in Sora Kell crafting at the same time. I'm just in the middle of doing a server upgrade for a client and as soon as that is done I'll get to the Crafting page. UltraMonk 19:13, November 22, 2010 (EST)
- Argh you edited that page at the same time and screw the table :D ... hehe ... no problem, just want to collect already the data ... well but I will do a break and finish the table later, its already 01:36 in the night over here ;) --SisAmethyst 19:37, November 22, 2010 (EST)
- Backley already created a complete crafting page at Cauldron_of_Sora_Katra --SisAmethyst 16:42, November 24, 2010 (EST)

Gianthold Crafting ?[edit]
Hello, I'm putting my question into this section : To me, what happens on/in Gianthold looks like fitting into the broad definition of "Crafting" as well ... Thus, I don't quite understand why Gianthold Crafting, as I call it, is missing. It is missing completely : From the Gianthold Adventure Pack page and from the Gianthold City page. Not even the NPCs have links to that. The only way I have found to Gianthold Crafting (I think that this term was even once used in the forums) is by using "ancient relic" in the search function. ⇒ Alrik (Contribs • Message • Email) 08:05, September 12, 2020 (EDT)
- The use of Ancient Dragon Relic, Ancient Elven Relic, Ancient Giant Relic, Restored Dragon Relic, Restored Elven Relic, and Restored Giant Relics in Gianthold is a simple trade-in/collector situation. There's no crafting that I'm aware of related to them. 👟 ShoeMaker (Contribs • Message • Email) 👟 08:22, September 12, 2020 (EDT)
Sentient Weapon page Internal error[edit]
Anyone else getting a Internal error for Sentient Weapon page. I haven't been able to access it since last week Thursday. I even tried different browsers. ⇒ Bladedge (Contribs • Message • Email) 16:03, April 19, 2022 (EDT)
- Posted on Discord ⇒ Corgrind (Contribs • Message • Email) 16:22, April 19, 2022 (EDT)
- I've traced the problem to an edit from 19 Dec 2017 (Sentient Weapon history) which Put the table of eligible items right on this page. And I have commented out this section so the page should be up. ⇒ Cru121 (Contribs • Message • Email) 17:20, April 19, 2022 (EDT)
