Symbol of Pain
Name: | Symbol of Pain |
---|---|
School: | Necromancy (Evil) |
Spell Level: | Clr 5, DarkA 5, FvS 5, Sor/Wiz 5 |
Components: | VerbalVerbal: A verbal component is a spoken incantation. You cannot cast spells that require this component if you cannot act or speak. Certain rare spells, such as Silence Creature, may temporarily disable spells that require verbal components., SomaticSomatic: A somatic component is a measured and precise movement of the hand. You cannot cast spells that require this component if you cannot move causing arcane spell failure resulting in a ruined spell. Spells without a somatic component may be used with disregard to Arcane Spell Failure chance. Note - that characters make the same arm gestures for most spells in DDO, so you can't tell which spells require this component by watching your character's animations., MaterialMaterial: A material component is one or more physical substances or objects that are annihilated by the spell energies in the casting process. You must have the required items in your inventory. If you run out of the components, the game will not allow you to cast the spell and will instead inform you of what component is missing. The metamagic feat Eschew Materials and some enhancements in Draconic Incarnation can remove this restriction. |

Description
You scribe a potent rune of power in the air. When the symbol is activated by a target approaching, all nearby targets suffer wracking pain that imposes a -4 penalty on attack rolls, skill checks, and saving throws for a duration of 30 seconds plus 12 seconds per caster level (No maximum). Each enemy can make a Fortitude save to negate the effect each time they pass through the symbol.
The symbol dissolves 20 seconds after being triggered, or in 5 minutes otherwise.
Notes:
- Use of the spell Break Enchantment will remove the symbol itself, without any caster level check.
- To remove the pain debuff itself, Break Enchantment or Dispel Magic may work, but you will need to succeed on your caster level check.
- Note that this spell applies to Undead and bosses, and works quite well on them as they tend to have low fortitude saves.
- Given the spell's uncapped duration, this debuff can have a great duration at higher levels.
