Overview
The same magic that maddened the giants may be doing worse inside Gianthold Tor - Crag fears they may be preparing some deadly and potent spell. Enter the Tor and learn the truth.
Completing this quest regularly (see chain) flags for The Reaver's Fate raid.

What to Expect
- Spawning/respawning monsters
- All Giants in this quest have Blessing of the Ancients and most of them also have See Invisibility.
- Monsters that have to be killed almost simultaneously (Optionals: 3 pairs of monsters consisting of 1 giant and 1 dragon each)
Known Traps
- Sonic traps going up the stairs to north side (leading to blue dragon), one-shot only. Can be disarmed.
Tips and Misc
Be sure to prepare well before entering the circle at the entry, the opening battle is a long one.
Useful buffs:
- Death Ward and/or Restoration
- Resist Energy: Fire (for pyromancer giants), Electricity and Acid (for Stormsworn Sky Knight)
- Resist Fear
A simple completion of this quest (no dragon optionals) is to...
- Defeat the waves of hill giants and fire giants entering through the various gates.
- When the entry fight is over and the door opens, go north and then west (left) and activate the rune in the Jarilith room that brings down the fire wall barriers (SW corner, near 1st shrine). Return to the entrance chamber and head north-east.
- Find and enter the rubble pile (titled "Hidden Passage") and talk to Snutch the kobold to learn about the other hidden passages to get around the gatehouse doors.
- Shown as portals on the map on this page, but not shown in-game
- There is also a shrine in the hidden area.
- Back in the main hall travel east and west and use the Hidden Passages to enter the western and eastern gatehouse. Find and pull the gatehouse levers; together these open the doors (nearby stone faces turn green) towards the central chamber.
- A strong party can split for these objectives.
- Enter the central chamber and destroy the statues, Effigy of Soul and Effigy of Body.
- Make sure to wait for the Portal Master's comments before you break each statue, because he occasionally won't become hostile if you break the pillars immediately without waiting for him to respond.
- Kill the red named fire giant, Caraduhn (summons giant skeletons and Jariliths).
The main objective of the quest completes once you've slain the Portal Master, Ignos, and characters can finish at that point if they wish.
Conquest bonus:
- To get the conquest bonus, you need to get additional kills before defeating the Portal Master at the end. The Portal Master summons endless waves of mobs for as long as he not . He will remain non-aggressive as long as at least one of the statues remains standing.
- Destroying either statue will spawn an additional wave of enemies, speeding up the process.
- On Heroic difficulties, the statues and the Portal Master have very low HP. Keep this in mind so you don't accidentally kill them with a single shot before getting enough kills.
Optional: Dragon + Giant Champion pairs
The dragons and their giant champions are optional and are purple-named. They are much tougher than the main part of the quest; you might find yourself unprepared if you attempt to challenge the dragons on Hard/Elite or Reaper. You can choose to engage one, two, or all three (or none).
- The white dragon's lair is to the west.
- The blue dragon's lair is to the north.
- The black dragon's lair is to the east.
Useful buffs:

- White dragon: Cold resistance/absorption
- Freedom of Movement to navigate the ice surrounding the dragon
- Blue dragon: Electricity resistance/absorption
- also Sonic resistance/absorption (for traps)
- Black dragon: Acid resistance/absorption
Each path to a lair contains two levers or runes that must be activated to lower a barrier in front of the portal to the main fight. These portals have their own rune that allows access and also spawns some skeletal guardians. Defeating these guardians will reveal a shrine that can be used to prepare for the upcoming fight.
There is a lockout – anyone who wants access to the dragon's chest must enter the lair before the fight ends, otherwise the portal will disappear.
To defeat a dragon and the giant, you must kill them both "at the same time" (within about 10 seconds), otherwise the dead one will revive with full Health and all debuffs will disappear.
After the fight you can enter the treasure hoard. There will be several gold piles, a chest a Madstone Rod, a shrine and a portal to leave the lair.
